Task 3.3. Implementing multi-purpose surveys

(Partners involved: IRD, UA-CEE, VASS; Month 12 to Month 30)

Household surveys on living conditions, labour, political values and social capital or special modules attached to national regular surveys (Peru, Madagascar, Vietnam, etc.): training of statistical institutes, test and correction of questionnaires; sample frame and organisation of surveys. These survey data will provide data for analyses, in particular in WP6.

Surveys (or survey modules) will be subcontracted to National Institutes of Statistics (NIS) for data collection. Qualitative participatory surveys will be conducted at the same time. This task includes an important training component for members of the NIS and local partner institutions (see WP12). Different institutions will fund surveys. NOPOOR will cover part of the conceptual work. In some cases, resources from NOPOOR are devoted to fieldwork (through subcontract with National Institutes of Statistics). Large national surveys are funded by national (Vietnam) or international (Madagascar) institutions. In case those sources would be failing, the geographical scope of the survey will be reduced. A list of original surveys implemented in the framework of NOPOOR is given in Annex 1B.

IRD (DIAL) is being approached to implement (always through NIS) national surveys on labour and the informal sector. Some countries already use our methodology and request our expertise. Although we do not include those surveys in NOPOOR, the outcome of task 3.1 and 3.2 will be valuable beyond the countries represented in the consortium.
