WP6 - Inclusion/exclusion in social networks, work and cities
Labour is the first if not the only source of income for the poor. However, malfunctioning of the labour market such as discrimination prevents the poor from benefiting from their work to overcome poverty. Work in the informal sector, bad conditions of living and segregation are dimensions of poverty that need to be more investigated.
In particular, more attention is given to social networks (including microfinance schemes) and how the lack of social capital interferes with the different dimensions of poverty. NOPOOR will undertake pioneering investigation in this area. Focus will also be put on segregation and the rising concern of urban poverty.
The specific objectives are to:
Identify labour market dysfunctions that cause poverty.
Precise the role of social networks as a dimension to be taken into
account for strategies leading out of poverty
Identify the new trends of urban poverty.
WP6 focuses on domestic policies as a complement to WP4 and WP5. It will be expanded on by WP9. WP6’s conclusions will also form the basis for a large part of WP10.
